We are a family-run distillery that set out in January 2018 with a unique vision: to redefine contract distilling. Our approach is rooted in an open house ideology, a commitment to craftsmanship, and a blend of art, science, and engineering that consistently delivers exceptional standards.

Before the birth of Distillutions, our founder and Head Distiller, Lewis Scothern, embarked on a transformative journey of passion and knowledge. His BSc (Hons) degree in Brewing and Distilling from Heriot-Watt University in 2011 was a turning point, sparking his love for creating small batch, high quality products at a craft brewery in Edinburgh.

After graduating, he worked in sales and distribution and rose to head brewer at one of the leading craft breweries in Scotland. He then had the opportunity to return to his roots in Arbroath, where he became head distiller at a small ‘ground to glass’ distillery, making international award-winning spirits.

From here, Lewis spotted a gap in the market. There was no facility where you could get your spirit made that wasn’t already making their own, which would be in direct competition with you. Along with the gin boom in the UK, it was the perfect time to realise his dream and open his distillery to help people experience the joy of bringing their concept to market.

From the very start of 2018, our success has been a testament to our collective effort. Lewis, Amy (Wife), Paul (Dad), and Alison (Mum) all came together to bring the business to life. Even in their retirement, Paul and Alison never worked harder, and Amy, despite her full-time job, took on a second role with Distillutions.

After a successful first year of trade, Vali joined the team to help with an extra busy bottling schedule. Vali proved his worth very quickly and is now in the position of Distiller.

As our journey unfolded, we welcomed Shall to the team in 2020, bolstering our strength in bottling and packaging. This marked a significant milestone, a point at which Paul and Alison could start taking a step back to savor their retirement, a testament to our continuous growth and progress.

With Alison taking a step back and increased administration demands, another member of staff was needed. Enter Andrea in 2021 to come in and do all the behind-the-scenes work to allow Lewis, Vali and Shall to concentrate on production.

After a few years of teamwork, we have created a great workplace and are proud to implement a four-day working week.
